Project Role: Creative Director, Lead Designer
Soldiers to the Summit was created by Erik Weihenmayer and the extraordinary team that helped Erik reach the top of Mt. Everest in 2001, when he became the only blind person in history to reach the summit. In October 2010, the team led ten disabled military participants to the summit of a steep and difficult 20,075-foot peak in the Himalayas. Disabilities ranged from amputations and blindness, to traumatic brain injuries and post-traumatic stress.
Erik approached me to lead the design and development of a new site and identity for the organization that has become much more than an expedition–it is a yearlong program that ends in an expedition, and a lifelong process of connecting with teams, reintegrating into society and shattering barriers.
Amazing photography by Didrik Johnck.
