Project Role: Creative Director, Lead Designer
On May 25, 2001, Erik Weihenmayer became the only blind man in history to reach the summit of the world’s highest peak – Mount Everest. On August 20, 2008, when he stood on top of Carstenz Pyramid, the tallest peak in Austral-Asia, Weihenmayer completed his quest to climb the Seven Summits – the highest mountains on each of the seven continents. Erik is joined by fewer than 100 mountaineers who have accomplished this feat.
I met Erik 6 years ago when my firm took on the task of creating a pro-bono site for one of his expeditions, Climbing Blind, where he trained and mentored a group of blind Tibetan teenagers on an expedition to a 20,000 ft. peak in Tibet.
Erik hired me in 2012 to complete his own personal website. After competing on ABC’s Expedition Impossible and finishing 2nd place, his exposure has been through the roof. His new site, just launched in June of 2012, brings visitors closer to Erik, his adventures and his amazing programs centered around helping others.
Erik is a huge inspiration in my life–a true hero, an amazing leader and a good friend.
